Invested: March 2004
Location: Brentwood, TN
Exited: Acq., United Health
Business Description: INSPIRIS is a solutions-driven healthcare services provider and care management company focused on medically complex, chronically ill, frail and elderly patients. The company provides innovative care and care management services within diverse Medicare, Medicaid and commercial populations that result in meaningful improvements in clinical quality, reductions in care utilization, improved risk scores and member satisfaction.
River Cities Role: River Cities’ financial and operational expertise supported INSPIRIS through a significant shift in its business model, two CEO searches and the addition of over 100 full-time employees over the course of our investment. River Cities’ partners served as the Chair of the Compensation Committee during the investment’s early years.
Value and Exit: River Cities and other investors sold INSPIRIS to Optum (United Health Group) in March of 2011. We are pleased to have generated a highly successful return for our limited partners.

“The River Cities team was insightful and supportive throughout the challenges of pioneering a unique healthcare delivery model. They understand the key elements to business building including strategy, personnel, resource allocation and the art of getting things done. Their perspective was especially important in navigating our sale to Optum. River Cities is an extremely valuable partner that I would be pleased to work with again.”
– Mike Tudeen, CEO INSPIRIS
