INSPIRIS names Gregg Lehman, PhD as President and CEO

Brentwood, TN – INSPIRIS is the premier provider of coordinated care to the frail elderly in nursing homes. INSPIRIS works with Medicare Advantage plans to improve quality of life for the frail elderly while reducing costs by using a nurse practitioner directed care management model.

Lehman comes to INSPIRIS after serving as president and chief executive officer of Gordian Health Solutions, the Nashville, Tenn.-based company providing population health management products and services to employers, managed care organizations and health care providers across the country. Under Lehman’s leadership, the company produced an average of 60 percent annual growth, and Gordian was sold to BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee in August 2005. Prior to joining Gordian, Lehman was president and chief executive officer of the National Business Coalition on Health (NBCH). Under Lehman’s leadership, NBCH transitioned from a grant-supported organization to an enterprise with the development of a suite of products and services for national group purchasing. Lehman has held senior management positions at other health-care related organizations as well as a distinguished career in higher education, including serving as president of Taylor University in Indiana. In addition to serving on a number of national boards of directors, he works with the Health Care Purchasing Institute through Academy Health, the eHealth Initiative, the National Quality Forum, the National Patient Safety Foundation, and other purchasing/quality organizations that promote value-based purchasing and market-based reform.

Lehman brings a unique mix of skills and experience to INSPIRIS, both in terms of his background leading a health management company, his tenure in the university setting and his astute understanding of the health care purchaser perspective.

•Mike Tudeen, chief operating officer, previously chief operating officer of National Seating and Mobility and vice president of operations for American Healthways;

•Kirk M. Stanley, chief financial officer, previously vice president of financial operations for the health population division of Matria Healthcare

•J. Marvin McBride, MD, MBA, chief medical officer and board-certified in family practice, previously serving in that same capacity for Landacorp Inc

•Gene Miller, senior vice president for business development, previously chief executive officer of Landacorp Inc., and executive vice president of CorSolutions.

The need for coordinated, quality care for the frail elderly is expanding as more baby boomers reach retirement age and the life expectancy increases. Between 2005 and 2015, the U.S. Census Bureau projects the over-65 population to increase by almost 28 percent while the total U.S. population increases by just 9 percent. The number of those over age 85 is expected to increase 16.8 percent over the same period.

Under INSPIRIS’ nurse practitioner directed care management model, the nurse practitioner provides primary care services to enrollees or operates as a case manager, coordinating with the primary care physician. Studies published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society and in Gerontologist show that a combination of intense management by nurse practitioners in the nursing home setting can reduce hospitalizations by nearly 50 percent.

INSPIRIS measures its program success in reduced costs, decreased hospital admissions and utilization of skilled nursing, improved outcomes and overall patient and family satisfaction. The company currently serves three markets, Boston, Phoenix and New York City, providing services to members residing in nursing homes and contracts to provide and coordinate services for 96,000 Medicare and 150,000 commercial members who may be recovering in nursing homes after acute-care episodes.
